What is SAE 4140 Steel?

SAE 4140 steel is a low-alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum as strengthening agents. These give great corrosion resistance and strength up to around 600°.  These characteristics include high strength and good machinability that can easily be heat treated for increased hardness.
